Spring is the Season of Hope

Spring is the Season of Hope

Ahh, Spring. A time for new beginnings and hope for sports fans. The Madness of March, and the college basketball tournament, is behind us so much is still ahead of us. Around the sports world excitement is building that will have all of us fired up for what comes next.

In Major League Baseball, we are about to throw out the first pitch on a brand new season. Regardless of how active a team was in the off-season, or how they finished last year, this could be the year for your team. It's baseball. On any day our nine guys could be your nine. That is the beauty of the sport. If your team has a huge payroll, or the whole team combined makes less than Max Scherzer, right now everyone is tied. Time to get excited.

If you are a golfer (in the north) or love to watch the sport, it's also exciting because we have Tiger Woods saying he will be playing in The Masters this week, just fourteen months after an accident that reportedly almost cost him his leg. As a fan, the storylines for The Masters can be limitless. As an amateur golfer (pronounced "Hacker") The Masters signifies that it is time to dust off the clubs, pickup a few new pieces for the season, and start setting up tee times.

For fans of the NHL, the regular season is coming to a close and the greatest playoffs in sports will be here soon. To me, this is the playoffs that regardless of if your team makes it into the playoffs or not, all fans of the sport get excited about it. All it takes is a goalie to get hot at the right time, and a little puck luck, and your favorite team can be moving on.

The NBA is winding down too, but there is extra excitement these days. Only a few games left before the playoffs begin, and with the play-in games for 7-10, even more teams can get excited for things to come. For those of you that don't have a team in the playoffs, The Draft Lottery will be here before you know it, and that is where the future of franchises is changed drastically, simply based on which ping pong ball is pulled out.

And then there is the elephant in any sports discussion in America, the National Football League. The season may be way off in the distance, but there is an event coming that even we fans in Detroit get excited about, the NFL Draft. If there is one day that fans from the struggling franchises can get excited about, it is Draft Day. Will your team get the next big star, or a massive bust? We will be finding out very soon.

It really is a season that can get all sports fans excited. In fact, I should go dust off my clubs.
