All of us that love sports have a point where they become a fan of a certain team. Maybe it was because that was the little league team you were on, or the team your parents rooted for, or maybe it was simply a gift that somebody gave you for the holidays or your birthday. No matter what the moment was that led you to be a fan, it is probably still a fond memory of yours.
For me, it was always Detroit teams first, but I would always want to watch the teams that I played for as well. I liked to think of my teammates and I playing in those enormous stadiums, and dreamed of being in those same situations. It was before the internet, so the rare occasions that I got to see a team like the Orioles or the Reds play, I would become obsessed. I remember thinking Chris Sabo was the coolest player ever, and wondering why more people didn't wear goggles on the field.
Many of my friends had a slightly different experience, especially when it comes to which college team they rooted for, and that was the team mascots. This was especially present in College Basketball where we all started filling out brackets, often times because our parents had done such a bad job that they just let us fill them out for them. "A Wolverine would dominate a Duck." "What the heck is an Aggie?" "I don't know. I think a Mountaineer might be able to take a Cavalier." Things like that were regular discussions before we actually cared about the games themselves. I think that is part of the reason that our TokyoDachi Collectibles are so popular with young kids.
I think the fact that the mascot figurines are small makes a big difference, because I know a lot of kids are a little scared of mascots when they go to games, understandably so in some cases. Seeing Sparty in person can be intimidating because of the oversized features, where having a little three inch tall collectible allows kids to feel comfortable with the character and start to get excited about a school or team. I think they are starting to get my son excited because he likes to try to find games for mascots that he has in his room.
What ever the reason, these TokyoDachi figurines are a hit with kids, young and old. They are great additions to, or starting points of, any fans collection.
